Vishu is celebrated as Malayali New Year on the first day of Malayalam month, Medam. Also, it is celebrated to mark the onset of spring and harvest season and the triumph of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura. Vishu usually falls in the month of April as per the Gregorian calendar. The exact date of Vishu varies each year based on the positioning of the sun, but it typically falls on or around April 14-15.
On the occasion of Vishu, the Kerala State Lotteries Department conducts a Vishu Bumper Lottery every year. Vishu Bumper Lottery draw is held live at 3:00 p.m on the draw day. It takes around 50-60 minutes to select all the prize winners. Once the draw is complete, the Kerala State Lotteries Department officially releases the results as a PDF file in about 30-45 minutes. The same results are also published in the next day's newspapers.
